Flow I, 2015, Oil on Canvas, 8 x 8 inches, $87
This was the first painting in a series of small abstracts that remind me of the turbulent waters of Lynn Canyon, in North Vancouver BC, where I grew up.
I had just purchased a new paintbrush unlike any I'd used before: a flat brush, cut on an angle, with a very crisp tip, which was made of smooth acrylic bristles. It was so versatile that got me experimenting with a variety of brush strokes.
This painting is available in an affordable black shadow-box wood frame, if you're buying it from me locally. Cost with frame is $105.

Mesa Fortress, 2015, Oil on Canvas, 24 x 24 inches, Sold
As I painted this abstract, I found myself recollecting trips to Santa Fe, New Mexico. When it was finished, I envisioned it as an ancient fortress on the high plains of that desert state, with a storm coming in from the top right.
The fortress could be protecting the white 'crystal' which reaches deep below it into the earth. Perhaps the crystal is an emblem of the inner self and joy in each of us, and the fortress is our strength, preserving that joy in the face of adversity?

After the Storm Passes, 2015, Oil on Canvas, 8 x 8 inches, Sold
This small abstract makes me think of a storm passing over a tropical island, leaving everything fresh in its wake.
Just Me, 2015, Oil and Pencil on Canvas, 6 x 4 inches, Sold
This small abstract is painted on a deep canvas, with the painting carried around onto the four sides, so that it can be displayed as a 3-D "object" on a shelf or as a painting hung on the wall.
Most of the painting is in oil; the dark lines are in pencil. The painting makes me think of someone coming around a corner with a cheerful greeting, "Hi! It's just me!"
The Space Between, 2014, Oil on Canvas, 6 x 6 inches, Sold
This is one of the first small abstracts I painted. The challenge for me was to simplify the design, as I was so used to painting 24x24 inches and larger, where there is more room to explore small details. 'The Space Between' was painted simultaneously with 'Waiting'; I was pleased when they were sold to the same home.

Amplify Your Voice, 2015, Oil on Canvas, 20 x 16 inches, Sold
This abstract is evocative of the electronics circuits I worked with over the years as a research assistant in physics and engineering.
In this troubled time for our planet and its citizens (human and otherwise), those of us who seek to preserve biodiversity for the future need to find every option we can to amplify our voices. Voting is one way. Social media is another. Volunteering and donating as well. And art has a role to play too...
An Active Mind, 2014, Oil on Canvas, 8 x 8 inches, Sold
This was a bit of a 'breakthrough' painting for me. I had been frustrated with myself for blending so much of my paintings that the brushwork no longer showed. In this painting, I managed to stop in time, which the details of the brush strokes still showed.
I am pleased with the little area near the lower right corner, where there is a little 'painting within a painting': some blue, green, red and orange nestled between a dark blue reverse L and a a dark brown stroek.
The First Inkling (of an Idea), 2014, Oil on Canvas, 16 x 12 inches, NFS
This was the first painting I ever had accepted to a juried show, and I was so excited! I also received very positive feedback about it during the show. I have a vision for a series of paintings like this, each of which represents a state of mind. For me, the yellow shape is the self, that part of our mind that calls itself "I". The inkling of an idea is the small red area pressing up from under the ground.
